Prevention Program

Prevention should be woven into all aspects of our lives, including where and how we live, learn, work and play. Everyone—government, businesses, educators, health care institutions, communities and every single American—has a role in creating a healthier nation.Increasing the focus on prevention in our communities will help improve its health, quality of life and prosperity. in every three children in our nation is overweight or obese which predisposes them to chronic disease and the numbers are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities.

Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) (hyperlink: is a research-validated substance abuse prevention program proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, opioid misuse, and violence to prevent the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors.

The Truth About Drugs Education Package(hyperlink: is offered as an aid to educators who teach 11-year-olds and above in a classroom, group instruction or community learning setting.The program is very effective with regard to prevention and awareness. It has encouraged conversations between youth and their peers and youth and their parents; other youth have referred their friends to participate in the program.”

SFP is an evidence-based family skills training program found to significantly improve parenting skills and family relationships, reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies and school performance.
